· Required for: international students studying in Canada for more than six months.
· Issued by: Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
· Applicants: must be healthy, willing to complete a medical exam, and law-abiding with no criminal record. Applicants must have a valid passport, a letter of acceptance from a Canadian educational institution and prove they can pay all their expenses, including return travel to their home country.
· Application: must be filled out in the student’s home country and submitted to CIC with the processing fee of approximately 125$CAD. Other documentation may be necessary, depending on the student's country of origin. An interview may be required.
· Approval: once approved, you will receive a letter of introduction confirming the approval. Bring this to the immigration officials at your Canadian point of entry, who will issue your visa.
· Working: international visa students may be eligible for part-time on-campus employment. However, students may also apply for a student work permit.
· Extension: an Application to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada must be obtained from CIC and completed at least 30 days before your visa expires.
